MUSICA INTIMA WORKSHOP

"MUSIC AT NOON" DOWNTOWN CONCERT SERIES

On Saturday, February 8, Saskatchewan Choral Federation welcomed Cantate Senior Choir, Conservatory Juventus Chamber Choir and the Saskatoon Children’s Choir to Knox Metropolitan United Church for the first Treble Youth Choir Project.  The Treble Youth Choir Project was a day-long workshop that allowed Saskatchewan youth choirs to work exclusively with acclaimed guest clinician and conductor, Dr. Mark Sirett, on a selection of mass choir pieces which included Amani (A Song of Peace) by Jim Papoulis, Rothsay-O! arranged by Ken Berg, Watane by Mark Sirett and Water of Tyne arranged by Michael Neaum.

Family, friends, funders and music lovers joined the choirs that evening at Knox for the Sounds of Celebration concert that concluded the day’s workshop. The evening began at 7:30pm with a small performance from each choir performing 2 – 4 of their own choral favourites before coming together to conclude the evening with themass choir pieces they worked on from the workshop. This was the first time these award-winning choirs have performed together under Dr. Sirett’s direction.

Cantate Senior Choir was directed by Deborah Nelson and accompanied by Marlene Hinz. Conservatory Juventus Chamber Choir was directed by Dorianna Holowachuk and accompanied by Bev Dyck. Kerry Agnew and Michelle Aalders directed the Saskatoon Children’s Choir. Kristy Apodaca, Bill Sgrazzutti and Charlie Wielgoz accompanied the choirs for the mass choir pieces.

A reception followed the concert and was attended by SCF board members, staff, choir directors, funders, volunteers and invited guests. Jazz pianist, Jason Yuen, provided entertainment for the evening.

The Treble Youth Choir Project was part of Optimist ChorFest Saskatchewan that was held in Regina February 8 – 12, 2014 in celebration of Choral Week in Saskatchewan (February 8 – 14, 2014).
