Luther College High School Senior Choir


 

Over the years the Luther College choirs have developed a reputation for excellence through the consistent high quality and musical standards they show in their performances. The Luther choirs have won many choral music competitions and been awarded countless honours and prizes over the years. Competitions include the Saskatchewan Music Festival, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's national amateur choir radio competition, and Unifest, a competition sponsored by the University of Saskatchewan.Members represent students from grades 9 to 12. On its annual tours, the choir has traveled in Canada from Vancouver, B.C. to St. John’s Newfoundland. In the United States it has traveled as far south as California and Arizona, and as far east as New York City.

Members represent students from grades 9 to 12. On its annual tours, the choir has traveled in Canada from Vancouver, B.C. to St. John’s Newfoundland. In the United States it has traveled as far south as California and Arizona, and as far east as New York City.

The choirs are renowned for the variety, high quality and wide range of repertoire it presents, which includes choral music from Canadian composers, folk songs, hymns, pop and jazz arrangements, and classical music from the renaissance to the twentieth century. 

Melissa Morgan, Music Director

Raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Melissa Morgan holds a Master of Music Performance in Choral Conducting from the University of Western Ontario, and Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Music Education degrees from the University of Regina. She is also an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto in piano, voice, and flute. An alumna and founding member of the Regina youth choir Juventus, Melissa began working with the choir as an accompanist in 1996. From 1998 until 2003, Melissa was the conductor of the Junior Choir and the accompanist of the Intermediate Choir. In addition to her work with Juventus, Melissa was assistant conductor with Holy Rosary Cathedral choir (2001-2003) and various university and community choral ensembles in Ontario (2003 -2005). Melissa is recognized across the country as a distinguished young conductor and musical scholar.

In November, 2005, her article, “I Can Tell the World: The Life Of Moses Hogan” was published in the American Choral Directors Association monthly journal, Choral Journal. In January, 2006, Melissa was one of six invited guest conductors at the Vancouver Chamber

Choir’s National Conductor’s Symposium. In 2008, Melissa’s groups traveled to Creston, Iowa, where they were invited to perform at the Southwestern Community College Vocal Jazz Festival. Melissa is an active guest conductor and flutist; her performances have been broadcast on CBC national radio.

In the fall of 2008, Melissa assumed the Pfeifer Memorial Chair of Music and became Music Director at Luther College high school in Regina.
