WHAT IS THE NATIONAL YOUTH CHOIR?

A project of Choral Canada in partnership with provincial choral organizations, the National Youth Choir (NYC) is a professional development program for Canada’s best emerging choral singers. Singers between 18 and 25 are auditioned every two years, with up to 4 singers chosen from each province and territory. NYC conductors are selected by a panel of their peers. NYC convenes in a different region every two years, in association with Podium, Canada’s national biennial choral conference and festival. After a week-long rehearsal camp, the NYC embarks on a regional tour.

For 2017, Choral Canada is presenting a special iteration of the NYC program in celebration of Canad's 150th, in a year where there is normally no National Youth Choir program.  Singers must be between the ages of 18 and 25 as of July 31, 2017.  For 2017, NYC will tour in Ontario and Quebec with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.

In Saskatchewan, members of the Saskatchewan Youth Choir have first opportunity to qualify for the National Youth Choir.  All interested singers should apply as some voice positions may not be filled by Youth Choir singers.
