On Monday, July 21, a small but mighty group of campers, ages 8 – 13, came from Riversdale and surrounding area to spend the week making music at Saskatoon’s first ever Jr Glee Music & Movement camp.  The camp was offered by the Saskatchewan Choral Federation (SCF) and ran from Monday, July 21 to Thursday, July 24, 2014.  A final concert and reception were held on the last day for family and friends at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (919 – 20th Street W) to showcase what the campers learned.

Throughout the week, campers sang in choir, learned dance, drumming, guitar and ukuleles, and made their own percussion instruments.  Two high school students did a great job as counselors and the campers had a great time working with Christine Nasr, who taught choir and songwriting, and Colin Elliott, who taught rhythm and strings.

Thank you to artsVest Saskatchewan, Leyda’s Café / TCRT Investments and Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority, whose grants and financial support helped to cover some of the costs for the camp.  We appreciate the in-kind support that was received from Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Cakes By Jen.  Special thanks to Meaghan Reynolds and Holy Cross High School, to Remma (Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity), to the Core Neighbourhood Youth Co-op, and to the White Buffalo Youth Lodge.  We would like to thank all of our volunteers, clinicians, counselors and sponsors for your support and commitment to making Saskatoon’s first Jr Glee Camp a success!
