National Youth Choir Tours Saskatchewan

A project of the Association of Canadian Choral Communities (ACCC), the National Youth Choir of Canada encourages national understanding, excellence and cooperation through singing.  Every second year, up to four young people from each province and territory are accepted to this prestigious ensemble.  Together the form a choir of professional calibre and vivacious enthusiasm that tours various regions of our nation.  Ranging in age from 18 to 25 years, these singers represent the kind of dedication, talent and passion that inspires.  Many have gone on to be internationally known soloists, conductors and arts adminstrators.  Others are now recognized academics, business people and community leaders. This year the NYC will be under the direction of Dr. Victoria Meredith, Chair of the Dept. Of Music Education at the University of Western Ontario.

Host a Concert or a Workshop/Concert in your Community

Hear the future sing!  Not only will their music move and amaze you, their commitment to the arts in Canada will inspire your community.  Book the National Youth Choir of Canada today for a workshop that offers participants the opportunity to make music alongside these talented singers and a concert that will have your audience on their feet!

Average concert attendance is 40% more when communities meet and work with singers prior to their concert.  The concert is approximately 2 hours long, including intermission.  Singers will be available to meet your audience following the concert.  You will receive media materials from the NYC Coordinator (media releases, photos, posters) and the choir prints its own concert programs at no cost to the presenter.

Workshop 1: Sing Along with the National Youth Choir

Give your community the opportunity for singers young and old to spend two hours singing beside the best young voices in the country.  This event includes tips for good singing technique, the chance to sing well-loved choral classics and new Canadian music with the NYC and a mini-preview concert by the choir.  This workshop can be adapted to the needs of specific groups including church choirs.

Workshop 2: Sing UP!

Give the students in your school choir the chance to see what heights they can achieve if they just stick with choral music!  This workshop will bring together a number of school choirs to offer tips for how to sing better, the chance to sing a new piece of music with the NYC, time to perform one of your pieces in front of all who attend and a mini-concert by the NYC on their own.  Help your young singers know that their music-making has a real future!
